Analog Art - Special Offer and Updates

Hello!

It now has been almost 8-months that we have faced the Covid-19 restrictions impacting our lives. I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe.

dale m reid on youtubePersonally, while I have not been able to create new artwork, I have been investing my energy in developing tools to communicate with the art world. It's been fun! Staying connected with my friends and reaching out to new collectors is part of my effort to remain active and healthy. For those potential new collectors, I have created a short video introducing myself and my artistic vision. I would like to share the video with you.

Art and Wine Chat

Remember going to art gallery openings on a Thursday night. I always enjoyed the opportunity to socialize and discuss the exhibited artwork with others over a glass of wine. Covid-19 has limited our ability to enjoy these events.

Going into a period where the sun sets early and we are faced with a second wave of Covid-19, let us create that gallery environment through Zoom. I am pleased to announce the launch of "Art and Wine Chat" over Zoom. Grab a glass of wine or your favorite drink for an engaging discussion on a variety of art topics and mediums.

Let us have some fun! Mark you calendar for the first art chat, December 10, 2020, 8:00 – 9:00 pm (EST) 5:00 – 6:00 (PST) for the first "Art and Wine Chat" over Zoom.

To ensure an engaging discussion, I would suggest limiting attendance to 20 – 25. If there is more interest, I would host more chats each month. Please complete the following to show your interest or send me an email at info@dalemreidphotography.com.

Proposed Art and Wine Chats Topics

Some of the topics may be more provocative than others; but that will allow for an even more engaging evening.

  • dale m reid art and wine chatAnalog Art vs Digital Art: Analog art is any art where the material making the art is manipulated by hand, like paint. Digital art is created using computerized tools.
  • On one of my visits to Barcelona, Spain, I visited Museu Europeu d'Art Modern (MEAM). They had these psychological statements on wall plaques. Personally, I found them thought provoking and inspiring. I believe it would form the basis for an engaging discussion.

"For the artist, the creative act does not lie so much in the way of using the brush or engraver's chisel, but more in the capacity to conceive great works. This is why our period is crumbling away; because we cannot find the people capable of conceiving grand and new versions of the world, because men do not emerge with sufficient originality to drag us away from tedium and return meaning to our lives."

"What modern man has completely lost is the desire for permanence. His works no longer aspire to last eternally, but simply to fulfill their small, limited, momentary vision of the instant. Modern man does not understand – too obsessed with himself – the meaning of the word eternity. He wants it to be he himself, personally, who wants to exhaust all the creative possibilities that were previously conceived in centuries, he wants it to be he himself who enjoys the applause which before only arrived after death."

"Many men expect applause from others in order to become the best, and with this their vulgarity is clearly shown. No flower awaits applause from the other flowers for being the most beautiful, nor does any tree for being the tallest, or a horse or a dog for being the strongest, the most gracefully or the best pedigree. Simply, in this straightforward "being" the best, nature gives them the inner satisfaction that the man that needs the applause of others never finds it."
  • How does art define you? Art is generally understood as any activity or product done by people with a communicative or aesthetic purpose – something that expresses an idea, an emotion or, more generally, a world view.
  • Discussion of various classical and contemporary artists, e.g. Edward Weston, Georgia O'Keeffe, Robert Mapplethorpe, etc. and their impact on today's art world.

  • Special Offer to Purchase Unframed Handcrafted Silver Gelatin Prints

My early photographic experiences had a strong locus on creating landscape images including maritime, seascapes, industrial and urban locations. Today my artwork has evolved to feature botanical subjects.

To celebrate my early artwork, I am offering selected unframed handcrafted silver gelatin prints at a special price of $395.00. The price includes shipping. Please act early before the image(s) sell out.

Each image is captured using a film camera and hand printed on a premium quality fiber-based paper using traditional black and white chemistry. Unlike inkjet prints, handcrafted silver gelatin prints have much more depth and warmth, quality of tones and overall beauty. A certificate of authenticity will be included with each image.

Description of Analog Art vs Digital Art

I have created an overall theme of "Analog Art" to distinguish my artwork from "Digital Art" where the artist uses computer tools to create their art.

"Analog Art" is any art where the material making the art is manipulated by hand, like paint. Since my medium is photography, I paint with light. Let me describe:

First, I manually determine the amount of light needed to capture the image on film. Secondly, after the negative is created from the film, I manually manipulate the light to expose the image onto premium fiber-based paper. Essentially, I create my artwork with two canvases – film and fiber-based photography paper.

    2020 International Competitions Highlights

I continue to receive international recognition of my artwork. Here is a short video of my awards to date for 2020.
